A beautiful lunch and French healthcare

Day 12

We woke up to another beautiful day and a swollen leg.

Husband noticed that his left calf was larger than the right and had a rash looking thing. We figured it was because we'd been walking so much and I suggested he visit the pharmacist for advice. There were two nearby pharmacies and he walked over there. They were very kind, examined his leg and suggested he see a doctor for antibiotics. He was not in pain, the leg was not dramatically inflamed, or with red striations. We had some antibiotics and thought he'd just start taking them later on.

We spiffied up and went to 3 Michelin star Astrance for our 1pm lunch reservation. We''d been there the year before but this time was even better!

I don't eat red meats or pork and they accommodated me with a delicious chicken dish.

We absolutely love the fruit plate. Delicious and refreshing!

Astrance was very close to the apartment so we walked the pretty Passy streets back.

Now, I'm a medical social worker but have seen patients with suspected Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) so when we got back to our apartment from lunch, I became ~very~ concerned about husband's leg which was now quite inflamed, much redder, and was warm to the touch.

We were lucky that Dr. Claire-Marine Andro, a few doors down from our apartment, was able to see us when we called from the street in front of her office. (E25/$29)

Dr. Andro spoke perfect English, and after consulting with another colleague, wanted to rule out a DVT. She prescribed Lovenox and sent us to the pharmacy to fill the prescription (E129/$151)with instructions to return to her for the first injection. Then we went to the lab for blood work (E52/$60). It was just a few block away.

At the lab, the receptionist and phlebotomist both spoke English and were kind and concerned. Husband does not like to be stuck but did very well with this procedure.

Dr. Andro said it was good to keep active and enjoy a glass of wine. She asked us to return to her office at 2pm the next day for the results.

After the bloodletting, we stopped for drinks around the corner from the lab then walked over to the Trocadero for the sunset, which was not as spectacular as the days before. We took our time meandering back to the apartment.

Our first introduction to French healthcare had been amazing! And thankfully, husband was OK.
