Day 9
After 8 lovely nights in two very different areas of the South of France (I liked the Languedoc Rousillon a bit better than Provence), it was time for my favorite place in the world: Paris! We'd have 8 nights in the 16th and no real agenda, except some special meals, given it was our 6th trip.
We drove from L'Isle sur la Sorgue to Avignon's TGV station and dropped off our rental. It had served us well, especially the no-cost GPS, but it was under powered with a seriously anemic AC.
We're not train lovers but it was very easy journey from Avignon to Gare de Lyon. The train was quite full; there was even a bird on for the ride. If there was a way to choose forward facing seats, I'd like trains more...
He had the bird on his shoulder and poop on his sleeve. ~nice~
We took the metro from Gare de Lyon to our apartment on Rue Raynoard in the 16th where we were met by our host's beautiful daughter. She got us situated--the wifi worked, as did the washer/dryer, they had fruit, OJ, milk, coffee, and water for our use.
The building was beautiful. The whole neighborhood was beautiful. We immediately loved it!
It was a nice apartment and we knew we'd be comfortable there for 7 nights.
The beautiful view across the courtyard of our building's twin.
The first order of business was L'As du Falafel, where we always go at least once when we're in Paris.
His favorite falafels! :)
It took a little longer than usual because I ordered the yummy chicken curry, so the cute waiter gave us an extra order of fries as we waited.
It was a beautiful evening. We walked over to Notre Dame where loads of people were milling about. The line to get in was long as usual.
We waited in the line and in about 10 minites were inside this magnificent cathedral. Mass was going on so it was perfectly scented and atmospheric. Unfortunately, the area behind the altar was closed.
Back outside, we got gorgeous pictures because the day was so perfect.
Around the back of Notre Dame, on our way to Au Bougnat, where we love to drink when we're in Paris, we stopped and danced a bit.
Au Bougnat was a bit crowded with regulars we recognized from our previous visits but we eventually got a table on the sidewalk and enjoyed a few drinks, watching the world go by.
It was a beautiful evening so we paid up and made our way to the river for the sunset.
Husband got a a few last pictures of the beautiful evening.
We were peckish and our first choice, Drop Cafe, was closed. We ended u p at Restaurant Lelo on Rue Bellechasse, where we stayed in 2017, for a very nice late dinner sitting at the bar.
The convenient RER C station at the Orsay got us back home.
It was probably one of our best first days in Paris in 6 trips.
Next: Trying to do new things...
