We slept well in our little apartment eventhough the bed was small because of air conditioning! Whoever invented AC, may all the gods bless you in perpetuity.
After our eggs, toast, coffee and pastries breakfast, we got on the road. Husband had perused the market, and us NOT being shoppers, deemed it a pass. I was ok with that!
After an annoying drive, we found parking in one of the underground garages and it lead us pretty directly, along a cute street full of fancy shops, to the Palais.
The Palais des Papes (1334-1364) did not look beautiful on this dreary day.
She posed and he snapped in every room, lol! |
We decided against going to the Pont des Papes because of the weather, but then exited to a beautiful, sunshiny afternoon. Oh well, we'll walk out there next time.
It was around 2pm which is apparently a witching hour for restaurants--almost everything was closed until dinner! We couldn't find any place we liked and ended up buying sandwiches and deserts at a little shop and eating them at a rest stop on our way to Pont du Gard.
Pont du Gard is from the 1C. It's a marvel of Roman engineering brilliance. It's functional, with its three tiers spanning the Gardon Valley, and aesthetically beautiful. You can walk on the lowest level so we crossed the river for additional views.
We walked over to the cafe and got rose and beer with an incredible view. We didn't have enough cash (off by a Euro) so the waiter took care of us. The French are so mean ;)
We plugged in L'Isle sur la Sorgue into the GPS and before too long were back on its tiny streets, making our way to the apartment.
The sun was setting beautifully as we made our way to dinner at Le Bellevue.
The food was fine. The service was attentive and sitting out by the river was very romantic.
We did a perambulation around the isle, stopping at a bar for rum and red wine, before turning in.
